Why Locals Love District Pho
Located in the heart of Deepdene, District Pho offers an authentic Vietnamese dining experience that delightfully captures the soul of traditional Pho cuisine. As you step into this lively spot on Whitehorse Rd, you instantly feel the bustling energy reminiscent of a vibrant Saigon street food stall, amplified by the rustic, hawker-style décor that sets the tone for a genuine and immersive meal.
The menu is a treasure trove for lovers of Vietnamese staples. The Bún Bò Huế ($16) is a standout, featuring a rich and spicy broth that perfectly balances heat and depth, paired with tender slices of beef. For those seeking lighter fare, the Miến Gà ($15) with its delicate glass noodles and chicken promises comfort in every slurp. Vegetarians will appreciate the Bún Chay ($14), a fresh and flavourful option that doesn't compromise on authenticity. Another crowd favourite is the Bún Thịt Nướng ($17), where the grilled pork bursts with smoky, caramelised notes that melt into the vermicelli noodles.
District Pho’s commitment to traditional flavors shines brilliantly beyond their soups. Their rice dishes, like the Cơm Tấm and the tangy-sweet Cơm Tôm Rang Me ($18), offer a delightful textural contrast and a rich symphony of tastes. And just when you think you couldn’t ask for more, the desserts such as the creamy Yaourt and the vibrant Chè Ba Màu ($7.50 each) provide a perfect sweet finish to the meal.
The aromatic Vietnamese coffee selection (offered Black, Milk, and even Durian Sầu Riêng options) complements the food beautifully, adding that strong, slightly bitter edge to round off your dining experience.
District Pho is not just about food; it’s an atmosphere. Expect to see queues out the door and a warm, sometimes bustling dining space where sharing a table with strangers is part of the charm. This communal vibe adds to the authenticity and excitement—you feel you’re truly part of a vibrant community passionate about food. The efficient and attentive service, even during their busiest hours, ensures you’re taken care of without fuss.
Regulars praise District Pho for its consistent quality and value. Annette Velasco sums it up perfectly, mentioning the irresistible, flavour-packed dishes that keep her coming back. While some note the brisk service style can come off as rushed, it’s clear that’s only a reflection of their popularity and dedication to quick, fresh cooking. Owner-staff interactions may seem brisk at first, but their warmth and dedication shine through, making the experience memorable and genuine.
Whether you're a local or passing through Deepdene, District Pho is a must-visit for those seeking a genuine taste of Vietnamese cuisine where authenticity meets vibrancy in every spoonful.

You know you’re on a good thing when there’s a queue out the door, you have to share a table with strangers, and take away orders have to wait outside! The food is delicious, authentic and full of flavour! I’ve been back twice now and I know I’ll be back again!

Consistent good quality food and not over priced. I've been coming to District Pho for years. It's my go to for good food. Their Bahn Mi is a great takeaway bite. But everything the make is great. Love this place . Some advice order in advance they can get busy during lunch time.

I officially declare this the best pho in the area! The beef ball was incredibly tender, and the pho noodles were perfectly al dente with a generous portion size. It’s a super busy spot, but service is still impressively attentive - even during peak hours. The lady owner (or staff) might come across as fierce at first, but she’s actually very friendly and observant… and absolutely stunning! The interior is modern and clean, making it a great place for a quick solo meal or casual lunch with friends. Highly recommended for any pho lover!

Food was fantastic! The broken rice with pork chop was very nice. The pork was a bit crispy and sauce was not too sour and well balanced. The service can be perceived a bit rude by some people but it's because they are very busy so they are a bit on a rush all the time.

Consistently Great, and hence consistently busy! As it's a smallish Vietnamese venue, so bookings for groups of more than 2 is a must, though if you do find yourself waiting, the turnover is pretty fast. The rustic decor gives off hawker bar vibes, further emphasised by the speed of ordering (sometimes while you're in the queue) and speed of service! A favourite for us when we're in the area.

Absolute perfection in every way. From the rich and flavourful pho soups, to the spring rolls, salads and rice paper rolls - this place always hits the spot. Probably my favourite place in the world to eat. Oh and the service too, amazing as always. 13/10. 5 stars dont do this place justice.

They are very good at what they do - great value @ $9 for a Banh Mi. Limited menu but it fresh and delicious. A hidden suburban gem.

I personally enjoyed the Cá Kho (caramelised fish) even more than the pho — the flavour was rich, savoury, and perfectly comforting. The Vietnamese drip coffee and the pho were great too, but the fish dish really stood out for me.
